The Samsung i900 Omnia Red offers astounding technology within a stylish case


The Samsung i900 Omnia Red is a phone which encompasses a huge amount of advanced technology within a beautifully crafted and designed handset. The original version of this handset was released in July 2008, and this red version has since been brought to the market. Measuring in at 112 mm x 56 mm and being 12 mm thick this handset is a comfortable and compact unit.

The handset comes with a 5 mega pixel camera. The camera operates at a pixel resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Imagery taken with this camera is vivid and clear. The camera includes a raft of photo taking aids which includes auto focus, face and smile detection as well as image stabilisation, geo-tagging and an LED flash. In addition the camera is also able to record and playback video as an alternative to static imagery. The inclusion of a secondary camera for video call purposes is a
welcome addition.

The display screen on this handset is a 3.2 inch TFT resistive touch screen, which is able to display 256,000 colours at a pixel screen size of 240 x 400 pixels. An accelerometer sensor is provided, which alters the aspect of images shown on the
display screen to their correct aspect in relation to the orientation of the handset. An optical track pad is also provided as additional means of accessing functionality. Handwriting recognition is provided with this handset and makes
text and data entry simple and effective.

The Samsung i900 Omnia Red comes with a multitude of connectivity options which includes GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, Wi Fi and USB. Internet access is provided and is available at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps through its own internal connection as well as
providing the ability to utilise nationally available hotspots. The handset also provides GPS that comes with A-GPS support for satellite navigation purposes.

Entertainment is provided by means of an MP3/MP4 player and a stereo FM radio with RDS. Most audio and video file formats can be catered for within this handset as well as the ability to tune in to a large variety of local and national radio stations.

The Red Samsung i900 Omnia utilises the Marvell PXA312 624 MHz processor for its CPU requirements as well as utilising the Microsoft Windows mobile 6.1 professional operating system. This smart phone also provides pocket office, which include Word,
Excel and PowerPoint, as well as providing a TV out and a voice memo function. The handset's popularity is justified and this new colour variant adds a different dimension to the range.
